The social life of a story
Loquendi is the communication layer of Scripti. It includes messages, forums, feeds, announcements, and narrative broadcasts that allow creators and readers to connect around a shared story.
Loquendi is the connective glue of any fabula. It encompasses the communication channels connecting characters to their world, and the communication channels connecting characters to each other. It allows these characters, each written by a different author, to encounter one another, exchange perspectives, and form relationships.
Loquendi includes in-world messaging, shared social spaces such as forums or feeds, world-facing news and announcements, and narrative broadcasts delivered through specialized agents that function as town criers. Together, these channels create a secondary narrative flow: the lived, conversational texture of a world as it is being inhabited.
Inner Loquendi
Inner Loquendi belongs entirely to the characters during gameplay. It is the narrative spine through which characters communicate with one another from inside the world, without breaking the fourth wall.
Here, authors communicate with each other only as their characters, which requires the careful construction of each character’s outward-facing personality: their public facing mask. Through conversations, reactions, and shared discourse, characters develop an understanding of one another and of the world they inhabit, often in ways that diverge from the main narrative arc.
Outer Loquendi
Outer Loquendi exists for readers. It is the space where people who have encountered a fabula can speak openly among themselves about it—analyzing, debating, and celebrating the story after active play has ended.
This layer reflects how stories already live in the real world. Platforms like TikTok, Reddit, and Instagram are full of communities that obsess over fictional universes, tracing connections and uncovering meaning long after a story is complete. Outer Loquendi makes that process intentional and visible.
Rather than inventing new platforms, Outer Loquendi can manifest through carefully curated and moderated presences on existing social spaces.
Outer Loquendi connects the inner life of a fabula to its wider audience. Participation is always optional, and it never intrudes on the act of creation itself. Instead, it allows the story to continue living socially, shaped by the people who care enough to talk about it.
