Scripti : My Method of Writing

Hey... this is me.

And this project has been taking up my mind-space for most of a decade.

It began because I couldn’t find a place to brainstorm and create that seemed as fun as the one I kept developing in my head. Yes one that respected both structure and imagination, permanence and play. But also one where I could meet people like me: people who like to create, and nerd out on creating. A place where I could escape the incredible tedium that modern life seems to always default back to (yanno?).

Over time, it became clear that if such a system was going to exist, I would have to build it myself. A large part of why I slogged through my computer science degree was precisely so I could do this. Seriously.

The work started slowly, me scribbling away in my beloved Moleskine notebooks as I wandered through Whistler, Vancouver, Ireland, Italy, France, and Martinique over the years. It was developed in the margins of my life, between university, work, and motherhood. Diagrams, data representations, database schemas, tool outlines, logo creation, and system sketches accumulated slowly, revised and revisited again and again.

Much of this work happened quietly, mostly in the dark corner of the pub with a glass of wine and a smoke. People sometimes asked me about what I was working on, but not many understood what I was trying to do... instead vaguely nodding and looking to change the subject. The few that actually got it, though, and actually engaged with it are the people that kept me going, those that reassured me that maybe all of this wasn't just for my own sake.

I love the power of building things with my mind, and this project makes me feel magical, as if everything I have learned and practiced has built up to this.

I created this for me as much as I have created it for you, and look forward to meeting you within its folds.
